One of the key objectives of the PTA is to support the education, training, and career development of a new generation of mariners and transportation professionals.

As such, we have partnered with the California Maritime Academy (CMA) in Vallejo, California to create the Pacific Transportation Association Annual Scholarship. The CMA is only one of six maritime academies in the nation, and the only one on the West Coast.

Each year, we award an outstanding cadet with a $2,500 scholarship, funded entirely by the PTA.

In 2015, the Cadet Peter Tong was the recipient. One of six children, he is a senior from Camarillo, California, majoring in International Business and Logistics.

Peter currently serves as the Commander of the Corps of Cadets, an essential component to the leadership and professional development program at Cal Maritime. Peter says that his experience at Cal Maritime has challenged him in ways he did not expect and he appreciates the many ways in which his education has made him a stronger leader.

In 2014, the awardee was Cadet Ramona Perez. She is a senior majoring in International Business and Logistics, and hails from Long Beach, California.
